Follow-on projects¶
There are two ways that a group's research may be extended, depending on the policy of the allocating body. The project can either be extended or a new project can begin. This page provides guidance for PIs on each process.
BriCS is not responsible for the chosen policy
Each allocating body that issues access calls sets the approach and policy for the projects they award. BriCS is responsible for implementing their decisions.
Please see the managing projects guide for advice regarding changes to project duration or node hour credits.
Additional Node Hours¶
In this case, an existing project will be allocated additional node hours. For example, these may be awarded on a monthly basis. The additional credit will appear in the portal, as described in the accounting guide. All data and users remain in place.
New Project¶
Some allocating bodies may choose not to award additional resources to an existing project. In this case, a new invitation will be sent to the PI. The PI should accept the invitation to the new project and invite users into the project as described in the managing projects guide.
At the end of projects, all data is expected to have been egressed from the Isambard supercomputers as described in the storage space information guide. However, for projects a confirmed and immediate follow-on project, the PI of the project may raise a helpdesk ticket to request assistance is moving their data. The original project will still end at its original time and data removed according to the data retention policy.
Data retention requests for unconfirmed follow-on projects
Requests to retain data on the platform for unconfirmed projects will be refused, and the data retention policy applied. This is to maintain data privacy and ensure available storage for current users.
