Portals overview

BriCS services are connected to more than one web portal, and it is not always obvious which one to use for a given task. This page explains how they relate to each other.

BriCS Portal

The BriCS Portal is where you log in, accept access terms and policies, and set the UNIX username needed to access the supercomputers over SSH. It is also where you check your project's remaining node hour budget and per-member usage (see the Accounting guide).

If your project was created directly on the BriCS Portal, rather than from an award, the Project Lead also manages project membership here. See Managing awards and projects for details.

Awards Portals

Most projects are created from an award granted by an external allocating body, rather than directly on the BriCS Portal. In that case, the Project Lead manages membership of the award, not on the BriCS Portal, but on the Awards Portal used by that allocating body.

BriCS services are connected to two Awards Portals: AIRRPortal and the Allocate Portal. See Awards Portals for more information on each.

Which portal do I use?

Task Portal
First login, accepting policies, setting your UNIX username BriCS Portal
Checking your project's node hour budget and usage BriCS Portal or the appropriate Awards Portal
Managing membership of a project created directly on the BriCS Portal BriCS Portal
Managing membership of a project created from an award The appropriate Awards Portal

If you are not sure whether your project was created from an award, see Managing awards and projects. If you try to manage membership of an award-based project on the BriCS Portal, you will see a popup with a link to the correct Awards Portal.
